CTC’s Intermediate and Advanced Summer Theatre Conservatories are designed for Middle School and High School students who would like to further develop their theatre skills beyond the Core Conservatory program. In both Conservatories, students take classes with peers their own age and with a similar level of experience. Intermediate students are cast in 1 of 3 productions and serve in a backstage role for another. Advanced students are cast in 1 of 2 or 3 productions and serve in a backstage role for another. The small class and cast sizes allow for in-depth script analysis, character development, and refining of performance skills. The two Conservatories share a campus and the students spend time together at breaks, lunch, and in special activities designed to promote friendships among students such as “peer-bonding”, Spirit Week, and Friday elective workshops. Each Friday, at lunch, students can share their talents in singing, dance, comedy, instrument-playing, and more with the Conservatory community during our “Open Mic” showcase.
Intermediate and Advanced Conservatory concludes with a combined Festival of Plays in which 5-7 shows perform for the public in rotation throughout the final weekend.
These Conservatories require excellent attendance and a high level of commitment from the serious theatre student. Interested students must audition for Intermediate Conservatory and for the first 2 summers of Advanced Conservatory.
Placement in the Intermediate and Advanced Conservatories is based on quality of audition, age, experience, and teacher recommendations. Not every student who auditions will be placed, and not every student who has completed one year of Intermediate Conservatory will be ready for the Advanced Conservatory level. Intermediate Conservatory is often a multi-year placement.
Intermediate prerequisite: Minimum of one year of Core Conservatory*, audition in January.
Advanced prerequisite: Minimum of one year of Core Conservatory* and one year of Intermediate Conservatory, audition in January.
Placement in Advanced and Intermediate Summer Theatre Conservatory is by audition only – must enroll in the Audition Workshop (January 24 and January 31, 2015). Click here for a registration form.
*Students who are 14 or older who have not completed a session of Core Conservatory but have a similar level of previous theatre training may be allowed to audition. Please contact CTC’s Education Department to discuss whether Intermediate Conservatory may be a good fit for your student.
