PLAY DESCRIPTIONS

Mary's Wedding by Stephen Massicotte: A soaring love story that examines the enduring, painful cost of war. Mary meets Charlie in a barn during a thunderstorm and love is born. It is 1914, and they are separated by World War I in this dreamlike and tender story of innocent first love and the vicissitudes of fate. According to the Calgary Herald, the play is "a delicate exploration of the excitement, beauty and purity of the first flush of romance... Massicotte is a gifted storyteller with an ear for detail and imagery." For adult audiences; suitable for ages 12 and up.
Playing as a double bill with:

The Dock Brief by John Mortimer: A dark comedy depicting an unsuccessful aging barrister asked to represent a wife murderer. He hopes that a "not guilty" verdict will bring him the fame that has always eluded him and constructs a masterly defense. With its ingenious ending, the London Times notes that the play "touched that rare dramatic level at which comedy and tragedy are indistinguishable." A real life barrister, Mortimer is best known around the world for his creation of the television series "Rumpole of the Bailey." For adult audiences; suitable for ages 12 and up.

Liberty Inn by Dakin Matthews from "Mirandolina" by Carlo Goldoni: The great Italian comedy reset in America during the Revolutionary War. Mirandolina is known throughout the thirteen states for her charm and vivaciousness and for her shrewd business skills as innkeeper of "Liberty Inn". Here wit and wisdom are put to the test as she juggles the attentions of a haughty but poor French aristocrat and a rich and aloof American Captain. Which man will she choose? The final decision will be made by a new kind of woman in a new kind of country, and plenty of laughs will be had along the way! For general audiences; suitable for ages 8 and up.

The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder:
An enduring farce, circa 1880, on which the hit musical Hello Dolly! was based. An irascible, wealthy store owner in Yonkers, New York, employs a matchmaker to find him a wife. The shrewd businessman becomes putty in the hands of Dolly Levi who pretends to make a match for him but in reality is making it for herself, all while leading a rather ordiinary group of people on the adventures of a lifetime. It's all in the name of love! For general audiences; suitable for ages 8 and up.
